Misty Bailey is the blogger behind Joy in the Journey and the podcaster behind Joyfully Homeschooling. Her goal in this online space is to encourage and inspire you on your homeschool journey by providing practical tips for real life homeschooling. Through real stories, real struggles, and real life, Misty encourages her blog readers and podcast listeners to embrace imperfection and strive for a more joyful homeschool.
In this episode, Yvette Hampton and Misty Bailey discuss whether our kids have the responsibility of being "salt and light" in public schools. Are we missing an opportunity to evangelize when we remove our kids from public schools, and if they do not have the responsibility of being "salt and light" there, who does? Finally, we discuss how, when, and where our kids should be "salt and light", and how we can prepare them.

Did you know you have a state homeschool organization working for you? State organizations PROMOTE homeschooling, PROVIDE valuable resources to help you homeschool successfully, and PROTECT your right to educate you children. These organizations are the first line of defense in monitoring state laws which would affect your family, then when action is needed, they rally their members and coordinate with other organizations to influence policy. We encourage every homeschool family to join their state homeschool organization (and HSLDA). Many people fought for years to gain the freedom to home educate and if we are not diligent we can quickly lose that freedom.
Rebecca Kocsis works for CHEA (Christian Home Educators Association of California), an organization that holds a special place in Yvette's heart. On this episode you'll hear why Yvette loves CHEA and get to know more about what state homeschool organizations are doing for you.

We’ve tried everything and even a scaled back assignment will take all day because she has no drive to finish. Do we just have to nag?" Danielle Papageorgiou has been homeschooling, or “lifeschooling,” for 14 years and has run the WINGS Homeschool Group for Charlotte, North Carolina homeschooling families for the past eight. She has a passion for helping other homeschoolers learn how to homeschool in a way that does not compete with family life, but actually enhances it… homeschooling done in a spirit of freedom, not legalism. Her desire is to see more families set free from the world’s expectations of what education is and to discover that God has made each family unique and has also placed in each of their children special gifts and desires that He wants to use. The verse that guides the Papageorgious in their pursuit of lifeschooling is Matthew 6:33, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

Linda Hobar is the author of The Mystery of History. Through homeschooling her children, and service as a missionary, she discovered a genuine love for world history where famous and not-so-famous people have shaped time itself by the mighty hand of God.
In the year 2000, Linda sensed a clear call to write The Mystery of History series for her children, grandchildren, and generations to come. Since then, this “Chronological, Christian, Complete” program has become a hit with readers of all ages. While fact-filled and thought provoking, Linda’s writing style is warm and personable. The Mystery of History has been awarded “Best Homeschool History Resource” in 2012; Cathy Duffy’s “100 Top Picks”; Mary Pride’s “Practical Homeschooling Reader Award”; and The Old Schoolhouse “Excellence Award.”
