In this episode, Yvette and Leslie discuss the importance of God’s mandate to parents in Deuteronomy 6:5-7. “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”

How can we do that practically through homeschooling?

Leslie Nunnery is the co-founder of Teach Them Diligently Conventions along with her husband David. She is the homeschool mother of four children who range in age from 11-18.  God has given her a strong burden to minister to Christian families to help support, encourage and equip them to disciple their children, protect their marriages, and serve God in the ways He has planned for them. She is an advocate of home education with a strong focus on discipleship which is evidenced in her writing and the events her family produces. She is also heavily involved in mission endeavors through Worldwide Tentmakers, for which her husband serves as president and Teach Them Diligently supports.

Home School Legal Defense Association is a nonprofit advocacy organization established to defend and advance the constitutional right of parents to direct the upbringing and education of their children and to protect family freedoms. Since 1983, they have provided homeschooling-related legal advice and representation to their more than 80,000 member families, promoting homeschool-friendly legislation at the state and federal levels, and offering information and resources to encourage and support all homeschoolers. Through the years, HSLDA’s primary goal has remained the same—to bring together a large number of homeschooling families so that each can have a low-cost method of obtaining quality legal defense. Today, HSLDA gives tens of thousands of families the freedom to homeschool without having to face legal threats alone.

Through real stories, real struggles, and real life, Misty encourages her blog readers and podcast listeners to embrace imperfection and strive for a more joyful homeschool.

In this episode, Yvette and Misty discuss whether our kids have the responsibility of being "salt and light" in public schools. Are we missing an opportunity to evangelize when we remove our kids from public schools, and if they do not have the responsibility of being "salt and light" there, who does? Finally, we discuss how, when, and where our kids should be "salt and light", and how we can prepare them.
