Schoolhouse Rocked: The Homeschool Revolution

2020-12

Episodes

Thursday Dec 31, 2020

Many parents choose to homeschool because they value family relationships. However, though it’s not intentional, it’s quite common for the children to become the priority and for the marriage relationship to be pushed aside. It’s difficult for a family to thrive if the relationship between husband and wife is not Christ-centered and healthy.
Yvette Hampton is joined by Kirk Cameron as he shares some of the lessons he and his wife, Chelsea, have learned about setting a solid foundation over the past 28 years of marriage, and through many years of homeschooling.

Kirk Cameron has been a part of the national landscape since starring as “Mike Seaver” in the ABC hit sitcom, “Growing Pains.” That role turned him into a cultural icon in the 80’s, with his mullet hairstyle, cool sunglasses, and wisecracking comebacks. Since then, he’s appeared in numerous television and movie productions, including the “Left Behind” series, “Monumental,” and “Fireproof”- the marriage-centered film that became the #1 grossing inspirational movie of 2008. His newest film, Connect, offers “real help for parenting teens in a social media world.”
Kirk and his wife, Chelsea, met on the set of “Growing Pains” and have been married for over 27 years. Together they have six children and host an all-expenses-paid summer camp for terminally ill children and their families called Camp Firefly.

When you think about Christmas and the birth of Jesus, do you ever consider Mary? Who was she? How did she react to the news that she would bear the Christ child?  What was it like to be the mother of a perfect child? What pressures did she endure and how did she handle being pregnant without being married or even fully united with her betrothed, Joseph? What kind of support did she have from her family and friends? Was she scared?
Join Yvette Hampton and Aby Rinella as they talk about this young girl who literally changed the world by simply saying "Yes" to the Lord. What is He calling YOU to do? How can you be a world changer? And, what lessons can we as homeschool moms learn from Mary?

Yvette Hampton is a homeschool mom through and through, but it wasn’t supposed to be this way. Like so many other homeschoolers, Yvette and her husband, Garritt, said they would NEVER homeschool their kids, but God had other plans. As a mom who is concerned for future generations and for the future of our country, Yvette has a deep passion to see a culture shift by encouraging people through the truth of God’s Word. Her greatest joy in life is being a wife and mom!
Aby Rinella is a former public school teacher turned passionate homeschool mom.  Aby resides in the mountains of the west with her college sweetheart and 3 awesome kids where they enjoy all things outdoors. Aby is a writer and speaker seeking to encourage and inspire women to live the life they were designed to live, to train up their children in God’s Word, and to stand on truth in a culture that has lost its foundation.
